The Society was founded in 1952 by five art enthusiasts dedicated to promoting the arts in Central Oregon. The rapidly growing group moved into the current space in 1959 under a special agreement with Deschutes County to make affordable art education and experience available to everyone. Driven by enthusiastic and ambitious volunteer efforts, the space was restored and remodeled and now nearlyt 200 members enjoy being part of this vital and thriving art community.
