Artist Statement

Making art has always been a dialogue between myself and the emerging image. Most recently the source

of that give-and-take has been the natural world as it’s an endless source for the imagination. The vision

may be in growth or decay or its own awe-inspiring majesty. Generally I work from observation, memory

or in-the-field photos. Beginning with drawings I try to establish the groundwork—as well as a rhythm—

leading to a finished piece. In the process I try to balance shape, light and shadow, negative and positive

space as well as their relationship to each other.
